Who We Serve and Why We Serve Them
Despite the growing number of organizations in education, the achievement gap between high-income and low-income students continues to grow. In 2005, only 11% and 8% of black eighth graders were proficient in reading and math, respectively, compared with 37% of white students (NAEP).
Very often there are communities that need an after school program, tutoring services, or another choice for a school but don't know what exists in and around their neighborhood. The same applies in reverse. There are schools and educational organizations that are doing great things, but not enough people know about them.
LinkEducation puts all education-related resources in one place, easily searchable and accessible by all communities. There are over 5,000 education nonprofits (www.NYCCharities.org) and 1,400 public schools (schools.nyc.gov) in New York City. Add to that the numerous employees of those schools and organizations and the parents/caregivers of the city's 1.1 million school children, and you have an idea of LinkEducation's target audience.
