Community League Education Program

Description: The Community League Education Program operates Monday – Friday from 3pm-6pm during the school year and from 9am-3pm during the summer. Students receive a healthy snack, homework help, in addition to a lesson appropriate for their learning level with particular focus on reading and math, and the opportunity to participate in various recreational activities such as dance, arts and crafts, and outdoor or gym time. Students also participate in monthly nutrition workshops through a partnership with City Harvest. Through a partnership with the Center for Urban Community Services, students and their families can receive free counseling and other social services. We understand that many factors can affect a child’s performance in school and we attempt to address as many of them as possible. We have implemented a rigorous system to track the progress of our students that includes a pre-test at the beginning of the year, social behavior scales, quarterly evaluations, standardized test scores and report cards.

Community Health Academy of the Heights

Description: The Community Health Academy of the Heights opened in the fall of 2006 with 6th and 7th grades. The school is expanding on grade each year, eventually serving 6th-12th grades. At the Community Health Academy, we promote a love of learning by exploring meaningful themes related to health and community. Our partners, New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia University Medical Center, will open their doors to our students so they can learn and work within the hospital and participate in community-oriented health research, outreach and other projects.
If you want to:
Make the world a healthier place
Prepare for real world careers
Develop the skills and brainpower to succeed
then the Community Health Academy of the Heights
is the place for you.
Our school is guided by four key words:
CARING: Our students will develop empathy and a
concern for excellence;
HOPE: Our students will develop positive expectations
for themselves and their communities;
INQUIRY: Our students will develop the ability to
