The Broad Superintendents Academy
Description: The Broad Superintendents Academy is a rigorous 10-month executive management training program designed to prepare CEOs and senior executives from business, non-profit, military, government and education backgrounds to lead urban public school systems. Participants keep their current jobs while attending The Academy. All tuition and travel costs are covered by The Academy.
Participants attend seven extended weekend training sessions covering CEO-level skills in finance, management, operations, organizational systems and education. In addition, we work with you one-on-one to customize and supplement your skill building needs.
We expect to place Academy graduates into superintendent or senior cabinet level positions within 18 months after completing the program. Our fast-growing alumni network and support system are designed to ensure that graduates succeed in their new roles in urban education.
Those graduates who have served as superintendents for two or more years have already demonstrated district gains in reading and math. Nearly three out of four have improved their districts' historical performance and are outperforming comparison groups in raising overall student achievement in elementary, middle and high school reading and math. The majority are also outperforming comparison groups in reducing income and ethnic achievement gaps.

The Broad Residency in Urban Education
Description: The Broad Residency in Urban Education is a management development program for emerging executives seeking a career in management that makes an impact. The program is designed for graduates from business, public policy, and law schools who have at least four years of work experience in the private or public sector. The Broad Residency provides immediate placement into full-time management positions in urban school districts and charter management organizations (CMOs), while providing two years of professional development and access to a nationwide network of education leaders.
In school districts, Residents report directly to the superintendent or a top cabinet member. In CMOs, Residents report directly to the CEO or COO. They are often tasked with leading major projects such as opening new schools, leading budgeting processes, increasing operational efficiencies, and improving human resources. Residents earn starting annual salaries of $80,000 to $90,000 and participate in a series of professional development sessions over the course of two years. At the conclusion of the two-year program, we expect that school districts and CMOs will hire Residents permanently in their current positions or promote them into more senior leadership posts.
Now in its fifth year, The Broad Residency has placed over 110 Residents in more than 35 urban school districts and charter management organizations across the country. 94% of Broad Residency alumni have stayed in education and continue to positively impact student achievement while becoming leaders in the education industry.
