Founded in 1995, the Youth Empowerment Mission was created to provide support and guidance for young people. Blossom Program for Girls

Description: At YEM, we believe that every girl, regardless of her circumstances, deserves the opportunity to develop her dreams and discover her true purpose in life. Blossom prepares girls to move from crisis to competency by equipping them with the skills and information that support their healthy development. Participants gain an appreciation for the power they possess to be an advocate for change in their community. As each girl achieves her self-directed goals and demonstrates responsibility, she will begin to apply her skills to support her peers and volunteer in her community. Blossom encourages young girls to explore all of life’s possibilities in order to reach their full potential.

Be the Change

Description: Through Be the Change participants organize and speak out about the issues that impact the lives of girls and women of color. With a focus on HIV, STDs, other health related issues, violence, and poverty, girls are taught to fight effectively for what really matters in their lives and in their communities. Using a three-pronged approach, including peer outreach, community involvement, and political advocacy, girls learn to take ownership of their bodies and use their voices to effect real change.
