CLAP4CityKids

Description: CLAP4CityKids is a comprehensive and well-balanced after school program that provides homework help, tutoring, and reading development assistance to girls in order to strengthen their ability to comprehend what they are reading and learn a multitude of strategies to improve reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.Each girl is assessed at intake and receives an individual student plan (ISP) that is specific to her reading development. Girls are grouped and tutored according to their reading abilities.CLAP4CityKids meets 5 days a week, Mondays thru Fridays from 3pm to 7pm. Early dinner is served from 3pm to 4pm and homework help, tutoring, and girls development activities are between 4pm and 7pm.

Girl Power Leadership Club

Description: Goal: Instill high ideals of character, conduct, and self-esteem, through prevention strategy workshops, group outings, mentoring, education, and community service. Activities: prevention programs (on drug, alcohol, violence, pregnancy, STD’s and poverty), cultural and positive leisure-time activities, career and college guidance, Leadership and outreach initiatives, community service, and artistic projects that provide opportunities for creative expression

Mentor Match Up Program

Description: The Mentor Match Up Program is a one to one mentoring program for girls, modeled after an agency partner, Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC which is New York City’s largest match site for boys and girls and provides intensive mentoring trainings and technical assistance for new and emerging mentoring programs. At Sister Power, disadvantaged girls (mentees) are paired with professional workingwomen who serve as role models to girls with great potential and limited opportunity to explore it.

Summer Day Camp

Description: Activities will consist of board and card games, arts & crafts, cooking, summer academics, computers, cooking, music, and dance. These activities will take place 1 half of the day and the second half of the day students will travel to local parks for outdoor fun. Out-door fun will be volleyball, softball, soccer, jump rope, sprinklers, skate boarding, handball, & more. Local trips will usually be within walking distance to museum mile or various Central Parks. Distance trips will require subway travel to the zoo, theater, roller-skating, and movies, amusement parks and more.Camp days are Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 5pm. The earliest a student is allowed into the center is 8:30 am. Pick up time is no later that 5:15pm. We will make every effort to minimize requests for additional fees for trips. However, there will be times when we will ask parents to share costs for select trips. Parents will receive advance notice. Summer transportation is free. There is a overall camp cost.
