Pre-visit materials for Teachers

Description: Although the Museum learning experience is based on observation, a pre-visit activity introducing vocabulary, history, or background information can greatly enhance your class trip. Included below are pre-visit materials that contain suggestions about preparing students for a Museum visit. For more ideas, please introduce or supplement your visit through more resources. Collaborative planning is the best way to ensure that your students have a valuable educational experience while visiting the Museum. The museum educator assigned to your group will contact you once your visit has been scheduled, or you may contact the Museum at (718) 501-6221 or youth.tours@brooklynmuseum.org.

School Visits

Description: Thematic Guided Gallery Visits are conducted throughout the year by museum educators and intern educators. Inquiry-based gallery lessons in the Museum’s permanent collections and special exhibitions are sixty to ninety minutes long and develop observation and critical-thinking skills. The fee for Guided Gallery Visits is $50 per group for New York City schools and $60 per group for schools outside of New York City. The fee for Special Needs Guided Gallery Visits is $1.50 per student for New York City schools, and $2 per student for schools outside of New York City.

Summer Camp

Description: Spend the summer in the Heart of Brooklyn with the Brooklyn Cultural Adventures Program (BCAP), an innovative 2- or 4-week day camp that weaves exciting connections among arts, culture, nature, and the sciences—all in fun, cultural institution settings, indoors and out! 2007's themes are "Myths and Magic" and "Treasures in the Heart of Brooklyn." Campers ages 9 through 12 enjoy activities at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the Brooklyn Children's Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Public Library, Prospect Park, and the Prospect Park Zoo.
