Mission:

Founded in 1991, City Lights Youth Theatre's mission is to provide young people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to participate in theatre experiences in order to develop confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and a greater sense of self and community. Our performing arts classes, full-scale productions, and in-school residencies engage children and teens, ages 3-19, in the collaborative process of creating and performing theatre.

Core Program

Description: The Core Program provides age-appropriate and sequential instruction in acting, musical theatre, and playwriting in an after-school and weekend class format. Core Program students perform in a season of productions including student-created, commissioned, and published theatrical works. The Scholarship Fund, integral to City Lights' mission, provides that at least 50% of Core Program students receive need-based financial aid; no child is turned away because of inability to pay.

In-School Drama Immersion Program

Description: The In-School Drama Immersion Program provides direct arts-in-education services to students and teachers in public, private, and parochial schools through theatre arts residencies and professional development partnerships. City Lights' teaching artists work closely with teachers to design a series of activities that integrate theatre arts and playwriting into the class curriculum.
