Mission:

Arts Horizons brings the power, the joy and positive influence of the arts into the lives of young people by making music, visual art, dance, drama, new media and creative writing an integral part of learning and teaching. Multicultural assemblies, artist-in-residence programs, classroom and family workshops, and professional development for teachers offer schools exciting opportunities to integrate arts into the curriculum for Grades PreK-12, including youth at-risk and students with special needs.

Artists-In-Residence Programs

Description: Arts Horizons' artist-in-residence programs are a series of hands-on, sequential classroom workshops that are custom designed especially for your school. They are taught by professional artists who may work on- or off-Broadway, perform in bands or dance troupes all over the world or run their own art studio. Arts Horizons teaching artists are leaders in their fields, experienced in working with children of all ages and receive ongoing training in the State Standards, arts integration strategies and the latest arts-in-education best practices.

Assembly Programs

Description: World-renowned professional artists visit your school or community center to give your students a magical taste of live performance. Musicians, dancers and actors from Broadway, Lincoln Center and around the world capture the students’ imagination and stimulate learning through a fresh, fun-loving approach and plenty of audience participation. Resource guides are available for all shows.

Professional Development Programs

Description: Arts Horizons, a leader in educational improvement in the arts, believes that every person benefits from life-long learning. Our motivating Professional Development workshops help teachers develop new ways to stimulate learning in the arts and make connections between the various art forms and other curriculum areas. They provide a framework for educators to engage in teaching and learning activities that support the needs of their students while implementing the State Learning/Core Curriculum Content Standards.

Creative Alternatives for Youth at Risk (CAYR)

Description: Creative Alternatives for Youth At Risk (CAYR) is a safe-haven, after school program for a select group of students with social, behavioral, or emotional issues. Arts Horizons provides the only school program of this type that employs professional teaching artists and arts therapists who address important issues through the arts, such as violence, racism, substance abuse, poverty and school attendance.

Empire State Partnership (ESP)

Description: A joint initiative of the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and the New York State Education Department (NYSED), Empire State Partnership grants are given to projects which pair cultural organizations with schools across New York State.

Empire State Partnerships (ESP) is dedicated to identifying, supporting and developing promising practices in collaborations between cultural organizations and schools. The focus of the project is on the achievement of the New York State Learning Standards and the improvement of teaching and learning in New York Schools.

Special Education Artist Academy (SEAA)

Description: Through the Special Education Artist Academy (SEAA), Arts Horizons is leading an innovative training intensive for Teaching Artists on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Truly a one of a kind program, this tiered training model provides mentorship, practicum experience and professional development to support best practices in special education and the arts. Residency practicum sites are offered in music, dance and theater arts in collaboration with NYC Special Education District 75 and use the arts to enrich learning and support individual education outcomes for students with Autism.
