Learning Leaders is New York City's largest nonprofit dedicated to public school students. We train committed and caring New Yorkers to provide tutoring and other support to our City's youngsters. We also equip parents to foster their children's educations.

Elementary:
Description: The majority of our volunteers work supervised by school personnel one-on-one or with a small group of students in elementary school classrooms and libraries. Some volunteers also give general assistance to a teacher. Volunteers are asked to give a minimum of 2 hours per week. Elementary school volunteer training takes place September through May. ArtWorks
Description: ArtWorks introduces third-grade students to the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Museum of Art. Volunteers provide preparatory and follow-up classroom activities for each museum trip. The project teaches children how to comprehend and discuss painting, sculpture, architecture and the decorative arts. Volunteers teach two 6-week sessions per school year or lead 6 one-hour tours. (Days only. Training Fall & Spring.)

Authors Read Aloud
Description: Authors Read Aloud features authors and illustrators of children’s books who volunteer to visit the same classroom four times a year to read from their own books or works-in-progress. The volunteers engage the children (1st to 6th grades) in discussions about the books and the creative writing process and turn young minds on to the excitement of reading and writing.

Literary Leaders
Description: Literary Leaders is an enrichment program primarily for 3rd to 6th grade public school students develops their abilities in reading, thinking, listening and self-expression. Students and volunteers read and discuss contemporary, multi-cultural stories as well as the classic Junior Great Books series.

Middle School:
Description: In addition to the core tutorial program, the Learning Leaders' Middle School Initiative offers workshop opportunities to parents designed to help them understand adolescence and effectively parent teenagers.

HighSchool:
Description: Volunteers can work with students in a wide range of subjects from basic English to Calculus. Or, help students prepare to take a Regents exam or SAT. Minimum 2 hours/week. Day, Evening or Weekend availability.

College Pplanning:
Description: Volunteers also assist high school college advisors and college-bound students with the application process, college essays, decision-making, and the financial aid process. Volunteers give a minimum of 2 hours per week. Day and very limited evening options are available. (Training September through January.)
