SOCIODRAMA

Description: Based on a curriculum highlighting specific themes, participants choose topic areas to explore within the residency workshops* by way of drama games, role-play, improvisation, guided discussion, scene analysis and re-play. Emphasis is on improvised story and character development and use of imagination. Topics vary with age/grade. Grades 7-12 / ages 13-21include three broad categories: Social Issues; Health and Development; and Identity, with a total of 21 topics to choose from. Themes for grades 3-7/ages 8-13 include 14 topics to choose from and include general behavior, social issues, manners and decision-making. A list of specific topic choices is available on request. Facilitated by a team of two Teaching Artists.
8 sessions minimum, plus 1 orientation/planning session for participating staff. 45-90 minutes per session depending on age and developmental level of participants. Pricing is based on a residency inclusive of in-class workshops, planning with staff, all materials, reflection meeting with teachers.

CREATIVE DRAMA

Description: A professional theater Teaching Artist guides students to create, express, and imagine. Theater games, improvisation and stories are dramatized while learning the process of devising drama. Simple and suggested costume and prop pieces are used to spark and enhance creativity, building characters and story line*. Mime, clowning, poetry, literature, mask-making and dance may also be incorporated. Priced as a residency inclusive of 8 in-class workshops, 2 meetings with teachers, all materials.

PLUS PROGRAMS

Description: An extension of our Creative Drama and Sociodrama programs described above, with an added performance component. The program ends in an informal presentation of original scenes created during the workshops. Facilitated by a team of three Teaching Artists. 12 sessions with students, plus 2 sessions with staff. Priced inclusive of all materials, staff meetings and in-class workshops.
