Position Overview:

East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) seeks an Assistant Teacher to support the planning and implementation of educational activities for 18-25 elementary school students during out-of-school hours.

Hours:

Monday - Thursday, 2:45pm-6:15pm and first and third Friday of the month, 4:30pm-6pm

Responsibilities of the Lead Teacher will include, but are not limited to:

• Curriculum Implementation and Classroom Culture

o Support and execute academic and youth development activities for students as directed by lead teacher

o Perform various instructional and classroom management duties to support a positive learning environment

o Work effectively with lead teacher to advance student achievement, develop social skills and love of learning

o Support lead teacher in monitoring and ensuring safety and compliance with behavioral guidelines for students

o Model and exemplify East Harlem Tutorial Program’s core values (SCHOLAR: service, courage, humility, originality, leadership, achievement, reflection)

• Parent and Community Liaison

o Support lead teacher in communicating regularly with students and parents – can include home visits, student and parent meetings, etc.

• Program Evaluation and Data Collection

o Assist in participant assessment process

o Ensures timely and accurate submission of student data

Skills and Experiences:

• Willingness to learn and abide by licensing regulations and accreditation standards

• Commitment to continuous improvement and learning through professional development

• Demonstrated ability to act as a team player and operate with a deep sense of personal responsibility

• Demonstrated commitment to students and their academic achievement

• Spanish fluency preferred

• Belief in the East Harlem Tutorial Program’s mission, education model and core values

Additional qualifications: Educational Background and Work Experience:
• Minimum of 1 year experience working with children
• Bachelor’s degree or on track to earn a Bachelor’s degree
o Candidates with long term teaching interest and those pursuing teaching credentials are preferred
