The Institute will focus on Mathematics Content and Standards for Mathematical Practices. Participants will explore performance based tasks that promote student learning. Educators will return to their schools with strategies, lessons and activities to design coherent instruction, effectively use questioning techniques, and use formative assessment to assist them in creating units to effectively implement the standards. The Two day Institutes will be held at Lehman College, Bronx NY. Cost per participant for the Institute is $250.

Information about the New NY Education Reform Commission The New NY Education Reform Commission is a 25-member commission charged with examining the current structure of the state’s education system based on what is in the best interest of students. This is one in a series of public hearings that the New NY Education Reform Commission is holding to gather input from local stakeholders as well as the public on actionable solutions to improve New York’s public education system in order to better meet the needs of its students while also respecting the taxpayer. Ever since the first #140conf event in New York City back in June 2009, we have been looking at the effects of the real-time web on Education. To date, the #140conf events have provided a platform for: students, elementary and secondary school teachers, college professors and high school principals. In an attempt to provide more attention and more voices to the educators of the world, we have partnered with Chris Lehmann (@chrislehmann) – Principal of the Science Leadership Academy in Philadelphia and we are bringing #140edu back to the 92nd Street Y for our second year. It is the goal of both Jeff Pulver and Chris Lehmann to take a hard look at the State of Education NOW and provide a platform for educators, parents, students, administrators, school boards, together with anyone and everyone with a vested interest in the state of education a chance to be heard and ideas shared and explored.
