She was a fellow of Yaddo and MacDowell artist colonies. Ms. Nunez has received grant awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities, The Nathan Cummings Foundation, and the Reed Foundation. She currently is provost at Medger Evers College, the City University of New York and executive producer of the 2004 NY Emmy-nominated CUNY TV series Black Writers in America.Victor LaValle- is the author of the short story collection Slapboxing with Jesus and novels, The Ecstatic and Big Machine. His latest novel, Big Machine has been critically acclaimed by Publisher’s Weekly, The Washington Post, and others. Mr. LaValle received his M.F.A. in Fiction from Columbia University. He is the recipient of numerous awards including a Whiting Writers' Award and a United States Artists Ford Fellowship. He was also a fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. How did European politics affect the settlement of New Amsterdam? If we could take a journey back in time to the early years of the city, whom would we meet and what would we see? This workshop will focus on the evolution of trade and transportation in New York City's history.
