These Children Can Behave

Behavior problems among young children are a growing issues these days for many reasons and excuses. The possible causes are endless: the pressure to teach math or reading instead of emotional skills; the lack of recess; unstable family lives; increasing emphasis on childcare...and the list goes on. But these causes are by no means an excuse. These children can behave and they can learn - if given appropriate guidance.

The Wall Street Journal had a short article on page D1 illustrating the work being done with some teaching programs. These programs give children more time for dramatic or pretend play and constantly reinforce the notion of self-control throughout all classroom activities. It is fascinating work that makes learning fun and teaches these children more than how to take a test, but how to use your own skills and desires to succeed in life. Take a look at the programs such as PATHS or Tools to read more about these methods.
