Family Meal Time
Red Rabbit loves the Holidays! In addition to the festivities and delicious foods, this time of year reminds us of the special time we share with our families over meals. Not only are family dinners fun, but many studies have indicated that families who routinely sit together for meals benefit the overall health of their children. How so, you ask?
Family meal time can improve dietary quality and promote healthier eating habits. Parents are more
likely to prepare meals that include fruits, vegetables, and grains, rather than sugary sodas and fast or fried foods.
Teenagers who eat regularly with their families have more positive peer relationships, better mental health, and are less likely to engage in risky behaviors outside of the home and classroom.
Eating with family can contribute to greater academic achievement. Children can develop their reading and vocabulary skills from conversations with adults and older siblings, which can lead to improved test scores and higher grades.
