At Red Rabbit, we believe good nutrition is essential to a child’s growth, health, and happiness. We work hard every day to introduce farm-fresh and organic foods to kid’s diets - and peace of mind to schools and parents! Red Rabbit would like to help the parents of LinkEducation integrate delicious, healthy eating into the lives of their families. We hope you find these simple tips on how to stay healthy this school year both informative and inspiring!
Stay Healthy in the Fall Hustle
As you gear up into the school year, you might be thinking, “I am going to be so busy! With so little time, how will my family eat healthfully?" Here are some quick tips to help you make healthy decisions while hustling into the Fall:
- For Meals Out: Dishes that are loaded with sauces can pack in extra calories, fat, sodium, even high fructose corn syrup. When at your favorite restaurants, ask for your sauce on the side or skip it all together. Simply prepared foods like grilled chicken or steamed veggies are not only healthy, but also allow you to taste foods’ natural flavors!
- For Meals at Home: Keep dried pasta on hand for a quick and easy meal. Toss whole wheat pasta (kids love angel hair!) with olive oil and whichever herbs or spices suit your mood. Feel free to add any veggies in your fridge too!
- For Snacks On the Go: Sometimes parents need to refuel (hello, coffee!). If stopping at Starbucks for a pick-me- up snack, be sure to check out calorie postings. While the black and white cookies come in at 240 calories, the seemingly healthy muffins clock in close to 400 calories!
For more helpful tips for the on-the-go family, we find David Zinczenko's book, Eat This, Not That! For Kids, particularly helpful (and often surprising!). The book makes shocking nutritional comparisons between well-known packaged foods brands and chain-restaurants nationwide.
